Integration makes Noise and Vibration Acquisition Easier, Faster and Better
PCB Piezotronics and LMS International announced the full integration of the LMS testing solutions with the PCB transducers equipped with TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheets). The new self-identifying transducers include geometry-related information, and will save time on instrumenting a test structure, identifying coordinates, documenting test data, and creating geometry.
PCB TEDS support adheres to the international standard IEEE P1451.4. This standard defines the template that organizes typical transducer information like type, serial number and sensitivity. TEDS compliant data acquisition systems read this information from the transducer and store it in the measurement setup – without operator intervention. This is faster, easier and less error prone then typing all of the information into the system by hand. Additionally, it helps to avoid cabling errors and allows the preparation of instrumentation outside expensive test cells.
LMS and PCB extended the standard by adding geometry-related information, such as component name, the point’s coordinates, and the transducer direction. This makes it even easier for their joint customers to avoid errors and fully document their measurements. Users enter information on transducer location and orientation when it is most convenient, not in a rush once inside the test cell. To optimize the use of expensive facilities, objects can be entirely instrumented outside a test cell. The coordinates of the transducers are then read once the object is in the test cell and cabled to the measurement system such as LMS SCADAS III. There is no need to waste valuable test cell time on instrumenting the structure. Subsequently, in Test.Lab Rev 3 and LMS CADA-X, the coordinate information automatically generates the wireframe geometry for use in both modal analysis and operational deflection shapes.
PCB provides several TEDS editing packages, which allow the user to update the information on the transducer, including the LMS geometry extensions. These packages support the full transducer range, including single axis and tri-axial accelerometers, force transducers, modally tuned hammers, precision and array microphones, and pressure transducers.
