Collaborative Engineering Technology for the Test and CAE departments
LMS International has announced the release of LMS Tec.Manager, its new flagship product line for Collaborative Engineering. Tec.Manager provides a revolutionary new class of web-based collaboration software specifically developed to enable the sharing of engineering data from the test and analysis departments. It allows anyone in the extended enterprise to find technical data and associated reports that lie "somewhere out there" without knowing where they are physically stored - or even if they exist. Using the familiar Internet browser, it enables the project engineer, component supplier, or program manager to visualize and interpret the data without knowing the application program from which they came. And it’s seamlessly integrated with LMS application software, easily linked through XML exchange mechanisms to pass data bi-directionally to/from other software applications, and acts in federation with larger scale PDM systems to form an unrivaled platform for engineering collaboration.
LMS Tec.Manager takes a unique hybrid approach to the ‘bottom-up’ creation of a data information model. It uses web-crawler technologies and a user-defined strategy to hunt for and collect data attributes that are already stored with the CAE and testing (CAT) data objects in their respective data files. These inherited attributes can then be complemented by user defined attributes to extend the data context. Only the data attributes that are selected to provide organization over the CAE/CAT data are stored, leaving the actual data in their respective data files.
LMS Tec.Manager is realized by a unique CORBA/XML-based data interoperability layer that provides distributed and multi-platform (Unix, Windows) connectivity to the actual data files. LMS Tec.Manager includes standard data drivers for a variety of commercial CAE/CAT applications. Furthermore, LMS provides services to federate the information model of Tec.Manager with other information models (e.g. from a PDM implementation) and to develop specific drivers for the interoperability layer to access CAE/CAT data objects in legacy databases. LMS Tec.Manager is built on leading IT and Internet technologies such as Oracle 8I and Silverstream Application Server to provide a reliable solution that supports engineering collaboration in global distributed engineering environments.
