Robust and reliable fatigue design

While durability simulation methods allow improving nominal product design using virtual prototypes, uncertainty and variability in properties and manufacturing processes lead to large scale scatter in actual performances. Especially in fatigue the influence of the scatter in material, and manufacturing is important.

Uncertainty must hence be incorporated in the durability simulation process to guarantee the robustness and reliability of the design. This paper presents application of both cases - material influence and manufacturing influence using applications from automotive and aerospace fields.
