SAMCEF Powerlines & Substations

 

SAMCEF POWERLINES & SUBSTATIONS is our professional solution dedicated to simulation of the mechanical behavior of the electricity supply network. It computes static configurations when imposing either cable length, tension at some point or maximum sag. From there, one can compute responses to static loads like frost, temperature changes or wind, as well as to dynamic ones, produced e.g. by cable breaks, or electrodynamic forces, when a short circuit occurs. All these loads can be applied to cables and rigid bus bars. Pylons can also be represented in order to take their inertia and stiffness into account in the computation.

 

Mixing all these element types enables you to build models of complete substations and evaluate forces distribution in the structures as well as reaction forces in the foundations of the pylons. 

This solution is based on the Finite Elements Method, which gives a great freedom in terms of design complexity. But our user-friendly Graphical User Interface SAMCEF Field, where everything is built with CAD geometries as primary support for all data, makes building such kind of models extremely easy even for people not very familiar with Finite Elements software. SAMCEF Field features a dedicated environment for the SAMCEF POWERLINES & SUBSTATIONS application where only relevant data is accessible. It is delivered with a library of cables and the ability to build yourself your own library of components (pylons, bus bars, loads, parts of substations...).
